Your Culture

Q1. Being the only one in the room: how have you learned to be effective/successful even when you are the only one in the room that looks like you?

Navigating spaces where I am the only woman has been a journey of learning and self-discovery.

First and foremost, I’ve embraced my unique perspective and recognized the value it brings. Women often possess an intuitive understanding of empathy, collaboration, and multitasking—qualities that are invaluable in any professional setting. By tapping into these strengths, I’ve been able to contribute in ways that are both impactful and transformative.

Secondly, I’ve cultivated a strong network of mentors and peers who understand the challenges and triumphs of being a woman in a leadership role. This community has provided support, advice, and encouragement, enabling me to maintain my confidence and resolve. Additionally, I’ve invested in continuous learning and self-improvement, ensuring that I remain at the forefront of my field. This commitment to growth has not only enhanced my skill set but also reinforced my credibility and authority in the room.

As a Black woman, my journey has been shaped by resilience and a profound understanding of my identity and purpose. One of the most crucial lessons I’ve learned is the importance of authenticity. Embracing who I am, including my heritage and cultural background, has empowered me to bring a unique and necessary perspective to the table. This authenticity allows me to connect deeply with others, fostering an inclusive environment where diverse voices are heard and valued.

Moreover, I’ve become adept at navigating and addressing unconscious biases and stereotypes. This requires a blend of grace and assertiveness, knowing when to educate and when to stand firm. Building alliances with other underrepresented groups and allies has been instrumental in this journey. These relationships provide mutual support and amplify our collective voices, ensuring that our contributions are recognized and respected.

Lastly, I’ve made it a point to mentor and uplift other women of color, creating a ripple effect of empowerment and representation. By sharing my experiences and strategies for success, I aim to pave the way for future leaders who look like me, ensuring that they, too, can thrive in spaces where they may be the only one.

In both cases, the essence lies in embracing my unique identities, continuously honing my skills, and building supportive networks. I’ve learned to transform challenges into opportunities and leverage my distinct perspective to drive meaningful change.

Your Story

Q2. Tell us about your background, your achievements and your current projects.

With a robust 20-year background in the corporate world, I’ve honed my expertise in leading cross-functional teams on a global scale, mentoring women, and generating outcomes that support company growth and success.

In addition, for the past seven years, I have built my own business dedicated to empowering women to embrace their authenticity and command presence with confidence and grace. My journey is deeply rooted in understanding the power of personal style as a form of self-expression and a reflection of one’s inner values and faith.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of making significant contributions in the corporate sphere, which includes being recognized for performance excellence. My global experience has equipped me with the skills to lead diverse teams effectively, and I’ve leveraged this expertise to mentor women, guiding them in their career growth and helping them navigate corporate challenges.

My proudest achievement as an entrepreneur is the development of the Purpose Palette Persona framework. This transformative framework is designed to help women integrate their inner values with their outward expression through four key pillars: purpose, poise, passion, and presence. This methodology empowers women to step into their authenticity and embrace their worth with the utmost confidence.

Currently, I am focused on expanding my influence and reach by sharing my personal story and proprietary framework, through various platforms. I recently launched a book anthology, “STAND UP! Resilient Black Women Who Are Shaping the World with Their Faith”, that includes my personal journey, aiming to inspire and empower women through the power of storytelling.

In addition to my book, I deliver workshops, and speak on panels, podcasts, and keynotes where I educate and empower women by sharing insights from my framework. These events provide practical tools and strategies for women to use their image for visibility, to command authority, and increase their impact in their professional and personal lives.

Through aligned communities and events, I’m using my background and expertise in strategy, wardrobe and style to help purpose-driven women show up more powerfully. One of my featured talks, “The Hidden Cues Your Wardrobe Says About Your Influence, Your Intellect, and Your Impact,” uncovers the powerful role that strategic wardrobe selections play in enhancing a woman’s leadership and impact in the workplace.

These initiatives are integral to my mission of guiding women to uncover their unique story through personal style and aligning their purpose with their outward expression. It’s an incredibly gratifying journey, and I’m committed to empowering women to reach their full potential with poise and self-belief.

Q3. Describe a significant risk you took that paid off.

One of the most significant risks I took was deciding to fully embrace the vision God gave me for my purpose, rather than conforming to the status quo or following the trends set by other personal stylists. This decision meant stepping away from conventional paths and embracing a more authentic and faith-driven approach to personal style and empowerment.

Instead of following popular personal stylist trends or adopting a one-size-fits-all methodology, I chose to develop my own unique framework, The Purpose Palette Persona. This framework integrates deeply introspective elements such as purpose, poise, passion, and presence, reflecting my commitment to helping women align their inner values with their outward expression. This approach was a departure from the mainstream, which often emphasized having cute outfits over meaningful transformation.

Taking this risk meant breaking away from established norms and facing the uncertainty of how my innovative approach would be received. However, this bold move paid off. By staying true to my vision and focusing on what I believed was genuinely impactful, I am able to curate distinctive and transformative experiences for my clients. This not only sets me apart in the industry but has also allowed me to connect with and empower women in a deeply meaningful way.

Embracing my unique vision and purpose has proven to be an immensely rewarding journey, leading to my own significant personal and professional growth. It reinforces the value of authenticity and conviction in pursuing one’s calling, and it continuously inspires me to lead with purpose and passion.

Q4. Share an experience that significantly broadened your professional perspective.

Living with brain tumors and healing from strokes are experiences that significantly broadened my professional perspective. These challenges teach me daily about resilience and the importance of embracing my potential despite physical limitations.

Navigating these health issues reminds me that true strength lies not only in overcoming adversity but also in maintaining a positive outlook and staying true to my purpose. This realization reinforces my commitment to helping women align their inner values with their outward expression, no matter what obstacles they face.

The recovery process from strokes further emphasizes the value of adaptability and perseverance. It highlights the need to approach challenges with grace and a resilient mindset. These experiences enrich my ability to empathize with others and support them through their own struggles.

This personal journey deeply influences how I show up in my work. I use my own experiences to empower women who are facing their own issues that cause them to hide or fail to fully embrace themselves. I understand firsthand how difficulties can make one feel diminished, and I am dedicated to guiding women in overcoming these barriers. By helping them embrace their authenticity and align their personal style with their purpose, I support them in stepping confidently into their roles and showcasing their full potential.

Overall, these health challenges have profoundly shaped my approach to personal empowerment. They inspire me to lead with compassion and a renewed appreciation for the strength of the human spirit, empowering others to overcome their own obstacles and shine in their expertise.
